Rhody to pick new logo
It's coming down to the wire, and on Saturday, May 19, the Rhododendron Community Planning Organization will choose its official logo.
The design will be chosen by only CPO members from four finalists at a 10:30 a.m. meeting in the Lolo Pass Room at the Mount Hood Oregon Resort, formerly known as Resort at the Mountain, 68010 E. Fairway Ave., Welches.
The final four designs were submitted by Mark Schumaker, Cheryl Budd, Laurie Crabb and Renee Lamoreaux.
"This was more of a community building exercise than meant to create a full-fledged logo," CPO President Steve Graeper noted.
But the CPO received more enthusiasm than it ever imagined when it put out the call for submissions.
"We have 45 logos now, all of which are great logos," Graeper said.
The chosen logos feature aspects of Rhododendron like the flower, the Rhododendron, the Steiner cabins, the swinging bridge, Mount Hood and of course a few pine trees.
"We we're going to pick three (finalists), but there was a tie," Graeper noted. "All four logos are very diverse. There's no commonality, which I'm very pleased with. I was tickled with all of them."
The community will be consulted when the time comes to decide on a gateway sign design.
"We evaluated (each logo) individually and assigned weighted values," Graeper noted. "We will take the one logo that wins and make some promotional materials. We had numerous submissions from outside of the area. I am pleased that all of the finalists are from mountain artists."
