Creative minds will enjoy a night out

This free evening (optional donation) combines an art display with a stage performance

by: CONTRIBUTED PHOTO: VERNON GROFF - This painting, Lavender and Old Lace by Vernon Groff, is one of at least a dozen art pieces that will be displayed beginning Thursday, Sept. 12, at Sandy Actors Theater, 39181 Pioneer Blvd.A special evening of entertainment is being presented free to the greater Sandy community. This is an event that happens no more than five times a year.

A local acting company will present a preview performance of the coming stage show and a local artist group will create a display related to the play in the theater lobby.

The combination provides a diverse evening’s activity, said Vernon Groff, an artist and member of Wy’east Artisans Guild.

“This (exhibit and play) should provide an enjoyable experience to talk about long after the evening is over,” he said.

The art exhibit, titled “Elderberry Wine,” opens at 6:45 p.m. and will feature paintings, sculpture, glass and photography as well as mixed media art. By 7 p.m., artists will begin a short discussion of their work. Attendees then are invited to enter the theater and enjoy the play.

Sandy Actors Theater is located behind Ace Hardware in Sandy at 39181 Pioneer Blvd. The doors open at 6:45. All donations from this event benefit Wy’east Artisans Guild community programs.
