Mt. Hood Athletic Club is hosting a Zumba fundraiser. At 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, non-members are invited to Operation Winter Basket.

A donation of a warm winter clothing item or accessory gets you into the Zumba class: a Latin dance-based fitness program where you can exercise and shake your booty at the same time.

The athletic club is looking for donations such as coats, sweaters, gloves, hats, scarves and even blankets.

Canned food also is being accepted.

Zumba Instructor Jenn Jennings, who had seen Zumba classes outside of the athletic club doing similar things, brought forth the idea.

The event’s co-leader is Savanna Zelinka, also a Zumba instructor.

Since the class is being held in the club’s gymnasium, organizers said there is no limit on the number of people who can attend.

Children are welcome for the first half-hour of the 90-minute class, after which they will need to go to the club’s daycare and child fitness center.

Fees apply.
