Sandy offense goes cold in 12-6 loss to Grant
Mt. Hood Conference

SANDY — Sandy played even with the Grant Generals for the majority of the game, but it was the third period that did the Pioneers in.
Grant outscored Sandy 6-0 in the third quarter and ran away with the 12-6 victory on Thursday night. Ethan Wright led the Pioneers with two goals for the game.
"We played really well for three of the four quarters. Unfortunately, that one quarter where we lost it and it cost us the game," Sandy head coach Jaime Nippert said. "Aside from that, we had some boys step up and play really well."
The Pioneers were missing two of their leading scores in Talon Mafara and Nolan Johns. Their lack of presence was evident as the six-goal performance from Sandy was their second lowest scoring output of the season.
"Usually we have more of a rotation, so with our young guys not being used to playing that much in a game, I think they kind of got gassed," Nippert said.
Sandy's Josh Lee would score on the first possession in the game to give the Pioneers the early lead. Grant would respond with a score on their first trip down the pool, but Elijah Gregg would come back with a goal moments later to give Sandy the 2-1 advantage.
