SANDY POST: MATT RAWLINGS - Sandys Molly Murphy-Brown powers through the breaststroke phase on her way to a win in the 200-yard medley at Saturdays district meet.PORTLAND — Sandy swimmer Molly Murphy-Brown highlighted the Pioneers stay at the Northwest Oregon Conference district swim meet Saturday by winning the 200-yard individual medley race.

She finished with a winning time of 2:38.73.

"It was so exciting to see. She raced so well," Sandy head coach Jamie Paul said. "Molly has worked so hard this season, and it has paid off tremendously — she is a champion."

Murphy-Brown proved why she was the top seed coming into the race as she blew away her competition, finishing more than eight seconds faster than the next closest swimmer.

With the victory, Murphy-Brown becomes the first Sandy girls swimmer in three years to advance to the 5A State Meet.

The Sandy boys and girls each placed seventh in the team tally — the boys team finished with 87 points while the girls finished with 53.
