Emily Van Vleck, 19, of St. Paul was cited for criminal mischief (for recklessly damaging property) and hit and run (property damage), both misdemeanors.

“It’s still unclear how she ended up the tree,” said Sgt. Bob Ray, a sheriff’s department spokesman.

According to Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, firefighters discovered the Toyota pickup following a 7:33 a.m. 9-1-1 call reporting the incident on Highway 99W at Southwest Middleton Road about a mile south of Sunset Boulevard.

Crews used thermal imagers to scan the vehicle and the surrounding area around the tree to confirm that the truck was vehicle was empty and that no one had been ejected during the crash. They found nothing and a PGE lineman in a boom truck also made sure the truck was empty.

At 10:30 a.m., Van Vleck, the owner of the pickup , returned to the scene as deputies were investigating the accident, according to Ray.
