A private Tigard middle school has received its accreditation from a regional accreditation agency.

Gaarde Christian School has been a ministry of Faith Journey Church since 1967, and this month received accreditation for its middle school from the Northwest Accreditation Commission, a nationally recognized accreditation agency.

The school offers pre-K through middle school programs.

According to Principal Frank Canepa, the school earned its accreditation on March 4, during the accreditation commission’s meeting in Salem.

The school has to be evaluated by an accreditation team and show continuous school improvement.

The accreditation is granted for a five-year term.

This is the second time the school has received accreditation from the commission. The school received its first accreditation in 2011.

“Accreditation demonstrates to our students, parents and community that we are focused on raising student achievement, providing a safe and enriching learning environment, and maintaining an efficient and effective operation staffed by highly qualified educators,” Canepa said.

“Gaarde Christian School is to be commended for engaging in this process and demonstrating a commitment to continuous improvement,” said Mark Elgart, president and CEO of AdvancED, the accreditation commission’s parent organization.

The private Christian school is located at 11265 S.W. Gaarde St.
