Former Gov. John Kitzhaber will discuss national developments in health care at a special program of the Washington County Public Affairs Forum.
The program will start at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday (May 24) at the Beaverton City Library, 12375 SW 5th St. It is open to the public.
Kitzhaber, chief author of the Oregon Health Plan back in the 1980s, described state developments in health care during a forum luncheon May 15.
Earlier this year, the former emergency-room physician spoke on the issue in Portland – where he shared the stage with former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, a fellow Democrat – and in Salem.
Republicans, on a party-line vote May 4 in the U.S. House, advanced legislation (HR 1624) to repeal the insurance mandate and other features contained in Democratic President Barack Obama's 2010 signature law known as the Affordable Care Act. But its fate is uncertain in the Senate despite a Republican majority in that chamber.
