Mom's Dessert Café hosts Michael Brewin on Saturday

Notable guitarist Michael Brewin will perform two sets of original and diverse acoustic jazz, blues, folk and flamenco music on Saturday.

The free concert will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at Mom’s Dessert Café at the Murrayhill Marketplace, 14661 S.W. Teal Blvd., in Beaverton.

Brewin has performed throughout the United States. His many associations have included musicians from groups such as the Beatles, Steely Dan, Miles Davis, Dave Brubeck, Diana Krall, Jimi Hendrix, Mose Allison, Diana Ross and Pink Martini. His guitar playing encompasses all styles.

A longtime Tigard resident, Brewin has also taught at Portland State University, Portland Community College and Clackamas Community College. He was on the Board of Directors of the Jazz Society of Oregon, served as a facilitator for the city of Tigard, on the Advisory Board to the Tigard Chief of Police, was Tigard’s last elected water commissioner, an aide to Ron Wyden and was nominated to the Oregon Senate, representing Tigard and Beaverton.

He also served as the news editor of the Clackamas County News, associate editor of Jazzscene magazine and a contributor to Bass World, the Oregonian, and other publications. His jazz survey book, “Souljazz: The Heart of the Music,” is endorsed by the Music Department of Stanford University.

Mom’s Dessert Cafe features local expresso coffees, pastries and cakes by La Provence, wi-fi and a pleasant atmosphere. Mom’s is open every day.
