Saturday Academy is coming to the Muslim Educational Trust, and SW Bible Church will hold its annual 5k.

This summer, local educational organization Saturday Academy brings its hands-on, in-depth classes to the Muslim Educational Trust.

Students entering grades two through 12 can explore science, technology, engineering, math and the arts with experts in their fields. Classes are offered July 10 to 14 and July 17 to 21. Lunch is supervised, and financial aid is available.

The 29-course selections include JAVA programming and gaming, digital photography, radiation lab and more.

Church to host 5K run/walk

Southwest Bible Church will host its Sixth Annual Family 5K Run/Walk and 1-Mile Fun Run on Sunday, July 9. The races, which kick-off the church's 2017 Outdoor Sunday Evenings Event Series, will be held at the church campus at 14605 S.W. Weir Road beginning at 5 p.m.

A free barbecue dinner will be served following the races, and pre-registrants will be eligible for door prizes provided by The Joint Chiropractic, Ace Hardware Progress Ridge, Play Boutique, A Flair for Gifts and Home, Caring Smiles Dental and Crunch Fitness in Beaverton.

The 5K race for ages 10 and up starts at 5 p.m., followed by the 5K walk for ages 10 and up.  The registration fees for both events are $5 until June 25 and $10 after that date.

The free 1-mile Fun Run begins at 6 p.m. and is open to ages 8 and up, or younger if accompanied by an adult. Online registration is available through July 6 at www.swbible.org.  On-site 5K and 1-mile check-in and registration is open from 3:45-4:45 on the day the events.

A hydration station for the 5K-route, with free bottled water provided by Trader's Joe, will be available at the halfway point on Teal Boulevard. Official race results will be posted on the church's website.
