Writers welcome at local conference
Willamette Writers, the largest nonprofit writers' organization in Oregon, will host approximately 800 publishing industry professionals and aspiring writers from across the greater Portland area at the 2017 Willamette Writers Conference, Aug. 4-6 at the Sheraton Portland Airport Hotel. Conference attendees will receive training in the business of writing, access to gatekeepers in the publishing industry, and peer-to-peer networking opportunities.
Themed "Words have Value," the three-day event will offer more than 100 workshops, lectures, keynotes and evening events all focused on building community and strengthening craft. In addition, the conference will provide a forum in which attendees have the opportunity to pitch film and literary industry representatives in hopes of advancing their careers.

Tigard dance studiooffers free lessons
Uptown Dance Studio will host a day of free lessons from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26.
