Horizon rushes for 379 yards in a 54-12 victory

SHERIDAN — The Hawks didn’t take to the air.

They didn’t need to.

The Horizon Christian High School football team, rushing for 379 yards on 43 carries, powered its way to a 54-12 win over Sheridan in a West Valley League game played Friday at Sheridan High School.

Sheridan dropped to 1-2 in West Valley League play and to 1-4 on the season with the setback. Horizon Christian improved to 2-1 in league games, putting the Hawks alone in third place in the league standings, and to 2-4 on the season.

Horizon Christian nearly had three players run for more than 100 yards in Friday’s victory at Sheridan. Junior Colton Cosner led the way with 114 yards on five carries. Senior Daniel Parsons rushed for 103 yards on eight carries and junior Michael Weber had 94 yards on 16 carries.

Weber started the scoring for the Hawks when he reached the end zone on a 2-yard run with 5 minutes and 9 seconds left in the first quarter.

Sheridan came back to tie the game, at 6-6, when junior Justin Acuff scored on a 41-yard run with 3:11 left in the opening period. But it was all Horizon Christian from there.

Senior receiver Parker Belan teamed up with sophomore quarterback Sandis Chhay for a 54-yard touchdown pass play and Weber added a two-point conversion run to give the Hawks a 14-6 lead with 6:40 remaining in the second quarter.

Chhay added a 5-yard touchdown run later in the period to help the Hawks take a 22-6 halftime lead.

Cosner opened the scoring in the second half with a 41-yard touchdown run. Parsons tacked on a 35-yard TD run later in the third quarter to give Horizon Christian a 38-6 lead going into the final stanza.

In the fourth quarter, the Hawks got a 65-yard TD run by Cosner and a 6-yard touchdown run by sophomore Noah Lubben to cap off the 54-12 win.

Chhay completed six of 11 pass attempts in the game for 102 yards. Belan had two receptions for 57 yards and Cosner had two catches for 33 yards.

Senior linebacker Brian Satterwhite led the Horizon Christian defense with seven total tackles. Parsons and senior Mitch Sheldon each had a quarterback sack.

The Hawks will be back in action Friday when they travel to Colton for a 7 p.m. league contest.
