Tigard wrestlers fall to McNary in dual opener

SALEM — The Tigard High School wrestling team seemed to get some good efforts, but the Tigers weren’t able to get the win.

Tigard opened its Special District 3 schedule by falling 52-25 to McNary in a district dual match held last Thursday at McNary High School.

The Tigers did get five individual wins on the night, three coming by fall.

Senior Victor Ceja, at 285 pounds, had the quickest pin of the night for the Tigers as he defeated McNary’s Steven Wilkerson in a time of 26 seconds.

Senior Zack Vollstedt, wrestling at 160 pounds, also triumphed in less than a minute, as he pinned McNary’s Noah Townsend in 0:49.

Tigard’s other fall came at 120 pounds, where junior Jason Alton pinned Joey Kibbey in 1:59.

Also for the Tigers, junior Luis Duran-Vega scored a 19-8 major decision win over Riley Repp in the 113-pound match and senior Trevor Ellenson notched a 13-6 decision win over Hunter Lucas in the 152-pound match.

The Tigers were scheduled to face both Sprague and West Salem on Wednesday in a Special District 3 double dual match at West Salem High School. Results of that match weren’t available when The Times went to press.
