Tigers start fast and win big

The Sherwood boys also come up with a victory Tuesday


MILWAUKIE — The Tigard High School girls basketball team got off to a fast start, and never looked back.

The Tigers, in their final tune-up before jumping into Pacific Conference play, jumped out to a 23-1 first-quarter lead on their way to posting a 56-22 win over Milwaukie in a non-league game played Tuesday at Milwaukie High School.by: JONATHAN HOUSE - JUMPER -- Tigard High School senior guard Lexi Carter (left) shoots over Milwaukie's Karissa Delauna in Tuesday's game.

With the win, Tigard improved to 5-5 on the season while Milwaukie fell to 3-5.

Senior guard Lexi Carter paced Tigard in the win with 17 points. Senior guard Emilee Cincotta added 13 points and senior post Jessie King scored eight.

Tigard will host Newberg Friday at 5:45 p.m. in its Pacific Conference opener.

The Tigard boys fell 77-61 to defending Class 6A state champion West Linn in a non-league game played Tuesday at Tigard High School.

West Linn improved to 8-4 on the season while Tigard moved to 4-5.

Tiger senior guard Bryan Berg led all scorers in the contest with 26 points and Tigard junior post Joel Johnson added 20 points.

The Tigers will open their Pacific Conference slate Friday when they host Newberg at 7:15 p.m.

The Tualatin girls basketball team ended its non-league schedule with a 53-44 loss to Beaverton in a game played Tuesday at Beaverton High School.

Beaverton upped its record to 8-3 with the victory. The Wolves moved to 5-3 on the season.

Sophomore wing Tamika Etherly led Tualatin with 14 points in the contest. Senior Savannah Heugly added 11.

Tualatin will open its Pacific Conference schedule Friday with a 5:45 p.m. game at McMinnville.

The Sherwood boys came up with a big win on Tuesday, posting a 59-49 victory over Sunset in a non-league game played at Sunset High School.

The Bowmen improved to 6-2 on the season while Sunset dropped to 5-5.

Sherwood junior guard Evan Kitto scored 18 points, coming on six three-pointers, to lead the way for the Bowmen. Senior post Jordan Kurahara added 13 points, senior forward Lucas Johnson had 12 and senior guard Cortland Hutchison had 11.

Sherwood will host North Salem Friday at 7:15 p.m. before opening Northwest Oregon Conference play Tuesday with a 7:15 p.m. game at Rex Putnam.

The Sherwood girls were edged 34-32 by Sunset in a non-league game played Tuesday at Sherwood High School. Sunset is now 5-5 on the season while Sherwood moved to 4-4.

Junior post Mallory Shields led Sherwood with 19 points.

The Lady Bowmen will play at North Salem Friday at 7 p.m. and then open their NWOC slate Tuesday with a 7:15 p.m. home game against Rex Putnam.
