Horizon Christian moves to 3-0 in league play

TUALATIN — The Horizon Christian High School boys basketball team used a strong finish to get a big win.

The Hawks, scoring 22 points in the fourth quarter, pulled away to get a 52-40 win over Amity in a key West Valley League game played Monday at Horizon Christian High School.

With the win, Horizon Christian improved to 3-0 in WVL play (8-4 overall), keeping the Hawks in a tie with Colton for first place in the league standings. Amity fell to 2-1 in WVL games and to 10-3 on the season with the setback.

In Monday’s contest the Hawks got some strong all-around play from senior guard Connor Marleau and from junior guard Colton Cosner in the crucial fourth quarter.

Junior guard Trent Pihas was the Hawks’ leading scorer in the contest with 24 points on a 10-for-14 shooting night from the field. Marleau added 13 points.

Noah Jones, a 5-foot-10 junior guard, topped Horizon in rebounds with six. Hawk senior forward Parker Belan turned in a strong defensive effort, as he limited Amity’s all-league forward Lance Nelson to just six points on the night.

Prior to the win over Amity, the Hawks posted a 78-34 win over Gervais in a league game played Friday at Horizon Christian High School.

Jones led the Hawks in that game with 17 points. Cosner added 13 points and junior Austin Forrester had 11 points.

Horizon Christian was scheduled to host Sheridan in a league game on Wednesday. Results of that game weren’t available when The Times went to press.
