Bowmen come back to get win over rival

Sherwood moves into tie for first with victory over Wildcats

WILSONVILLE — It was a victory that must have been doubly satisfying for the Sherwood High School boys basketball team.

First, for the Bowmen, it was a win over their rivals. In addition, it was a victory that put them into a tie for first place in the Northwest Oregon Conference standings.

Sherwood accomplished both of those things by rallying from a fourth-quarter deficit to score a 45-41 win over rival Wilsonville in a NWOC game played Friday at Wilsonville High School.

With the victory, the Bowmen improved to 5-1 in conference play (12-3 overall) at that point, putting them in a tie with Sandy and Wilsonville for first place in the conference standings.

Senior post Jordan Kurahara paced the Bowmen in Friday’s victory with 16 points.

Junior wing Ben Milligan scored 12 points, junior guard Evan Kitto scored seven and senior post Lucas Johnson had six.

Sherwood followed up the win over Wilsonville by besting Rex Putnam 53-30 in a conference game played Tuesday at Sherwood High School.

The Bowmen improved to 6-1 in league play and to 13-3 on the season with that victory.

Kurahara and Kitto each scored 14 points in the win over Putnam, with Kitto sinking four three-pointers and scoring all 14 of his points in the first half.

Milligan and senior Keegan Lawrence added six points apiece.

The Bowmen will be back in action Friday when they host Liberty in a NWOC game starting at 7:15 p.m.

On Tuesday, Sherwood will travel to St. Helens for a 7:15 p.m. contest
