Tigard teams step up at Metro slalom race
The Tualatin and Tigard high school ski teams competed in the first Metro Ski League Slalom race of season, held Saturday on the Paint Brush race venue at Timberline.
The Tigard boys piled up more season points, finishing second again with a combined time of 4 minutes, 32.19 seconds, putting them 16.99 seconds behind Jesuit.
Tyler Olson lead the way for the Tigers with a third-place finish and combined time of 1:24.89. Ryan Barlow finished seventh with a time of 1:27.01. Luke Wargo contributed the third team time with 14th-fastest first run time of 50.88.
Nour Rahal-Arabi contributed a third team team time with 24th-fastest second run time of 50.13. Nathan Saier finished 25th with combined time of 1:49.79. Mitchell Atwood finished 31st with time of 2:00.03. Salam Rahal-Arabi and Simon Spisak participated in the JV race.
The Tigard girls finished in third place in the team standings with combined time of 4:51.10, putting them only 4.65 seconds behind first-place Jesuit.
Five Tigard varsity girls all finished in the top 17 places, putting pressure on Jesuit and second-place finisher Oregon Episcopal School. Sarah Gentry turned in another solid third-place finish and combined time of 1:29.86, beating all Jesuit rivals. Lucy Yusem stepped it up for a season best eighth-place finish and time of 1:37.85.
Also for Tigard, Ashley Belden finished 11th with time of 1:44.48. Emma Wihtol finished close behind in 13th place with time of 1:44.92. Freshman Emily Sverdrup finished in 17th place with time of 1:50.44. Nikki Yusem finished in 25th place with combined time of 1:59.17.
The Tualatin boys team pulled out a sixth-place finish in a real team effort with combined time of 5:08.14, coming within 2.18 seconds of overtaking OES.
Jeff Jost had the highest Tualatin finish for the day. He finished in 12th place with combined time of 1:36.69. Kai Depp had 20th fastest first run time of 50.86 seconds contributing to team time. Taylor Jordan contributed the ninth-fastest second run time of 44.20. Newcomers Max Mitchell and Christian Jordan stepped up and contributed team times. Mitchell contributed final first run team time of 1:00.69. Jordan contributed final third run with 29th fastest time of 53.31. The Tualatin boys are hanging on to fifth place in season standings and remain in contention for qualifying for the March State Race.
Caylum Tippett finished 17th with time of 1:50.44 and lead the Tualatin girls to a sixth-place finish, with combined time of 5:39.93.
Megan Jost finished in 20th place with combined time of 1:54.79. Isabel Juliana finished in 28th place with combined time of 2:04.70. Juliana turned in the fastest run for the day for all Tualatin racers with a seventh-place first run finish and time of 50.17.
The Jesuit girls finished first overall with a combined time of 4:46.45. Samantha Woodring form OES finished in first place, individually, for the girls. The Jesuit boys finished first overall. Hayden Mills from Jesuit had the top individual time for the boys.
The Tualatin and Tigard teams are scheduled to be back in action for Metro League's fourth race of the season, set for Saturday at Timberline.
