by: JEFF MCDONALD - The Victorian Apartments on James Street were the location of a fatal stabbing early Sunday morning. The victim, Juan Pedro Bravo Luna, 23, lived in this upstairs apartment. Neighbors were still in shock Monday following the death of a 23-year-old farmworker who was stabbed in his apartment early Sunday.

Police responded to a call at 2:45 a.m. in the Victorian Apartments on James Street. The victim, Juan Pedro Bravo Luna, was stabilized at the scene, but later died from the injuries at Silverton Hospital.

“Everyone here is so sad,” said Elizabeth Velez, a neighbor. “He was everywhere. He did everything. He wasn’t a bad guy. This just came out of nowhere.”

Velez said the victim often gave corn and other vegetables from his work to his neighbors. She and the victim had been planning to go out dancing Saturday night, she said.

Another neighbor, Marta Alcibar, said she heard Bravo Luna screaming for help. She also heard knocking on his window and door, she said.

The Woodburn Police Department and the Marion County Homicide Assault Response Team are investigating the incident, said Capt. Doug Garrett. While the act took place within a few blocks of Legion Park where Fiesta Mexicana was being held this weekend, there was no connection between the event and the homicide, Garrett said.

Anyone with information in connection with this incident is asked to contact Det. Aaron DeVoe of the Woodburn Police Department at 503-982-2345.
