by: WOODBURN FIRE DISTRICT - Woodburn firefighters investigate the cause of an early Tuesday morning fire in West Woodburn.Woodburn firefighters were called to a blaze in West Woodburn Tuesday morning that engulfed a two-car garage but spared the attached house.

The owner of a home on Camas Street reportedly discovered the blaze in his garage when he woke up before 5 a.m. He told firefighters he moved his pickup, parked in front of the garage, which prevented it from being damaged.

Firefighters were able to suppress the flames within 25 minutes of arriving, keeping the fire from spreading to the house. It caused only minor damage to the house's exterior.

A total of 17 firefighters, three fire engines, and one air support rig were on scene for about two hours completing extinguishment and salvage and overhaul operations. There were no firefighter or civilian injuries.

Once power is restored, the homeowner will be able to re-occupy his home. Preliminary damage estimates place the loss at around $35,000 to the structure and $15,000 to the contents of the garage. The cause is still under investigation; however investigators have ruled out any suspicious activities and believe the cause is accidental in nature. The home was insured.
