Kirsch Family Farms owner receives 2016 Ag Connection of the Year Award at annual dinner and auction

COURTESY PHOTO - Brenda FrketichSt. Paul farmer Brenda Frketich has been awarded the 2016 Ag Connection of the Year Award by Oregon AgLink.

The award was presented at the Nov. 18 annual Denim & Diamonds Dinner and Auction at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland.

According to a press release, Frketich was selected for her effective work in connecting urban Oregonians with the lives and concerns of rural Oregonians. She reaches urban readers through her popular blog, NuttyGrass.com, and she reaches politicians in Salem and across the state through testimony before the state legislature. Together, these make her an especially strong advocate for Oregon farmers and ranchers.

After earning her business degree in Los Angeles at Loyola Marymount University, Frketich returned home to Kirsch Family Farms in St. Paul, first as an intern, then manager, and now owner. Her leadership in farm organizations and her ability to speak to both sides of the urban and rural experience has garnered her honors from John Deere and DTN/The Progressive Farmer. She traveled to Chicago to accept an award from them as one of America's Best Young Farmers and Ranchers in 2013.

She currently resides with her husband and two young sons in St. Paul, where she continues writing and farming.

Founded in 1966, Oregon Aglink, formerly Agri-Business Council of Oregon supports Oregon agriculture through a non-political, nonprofit alliance of members from all regions, segments and commodities of Oregon agriculture.
