The Pamplin Media Group's Amazing Kids event is quickly approaching. Now in its fourth year, the Amazing Kids award honors young people who have made a difference in their communities. Our honorees excel in the areas of volunteerism and community service.

With this award, 29 young people are chosen to represent the communities served by the Pamplin Media Group newspapers.

In past years, these Amazing Kids have served as peer mentors, helped the under-privileged, served the sick and homeless, or overcome severe hardship to excel in school.

Honorees are nominated by their school counselors, teachers or friends, who laud their efforts for genuinely caring for others.

In choosing each Amazing Kid honoree, the Pamplin Media Group selection committee placed a heavy emphasis on volunteerism that makes a difference in the lives of other people.

Each Amazing Kid will be honored along with their peers from throughout the metro area and Central Oregon at our celebratory event May 8 at OMSI in Portland. All honorees will also be featured in our Amazing Kids special section, which will publish the week of May 8 in all Pamplin Media Group newspapers.

The Woodburn Independent announced its 2017 Woodburn Amazing Kid, Rafael Vasquez Lopez, in the April 5 edition of the paper.
