Kids raise $20K ... and counting
Both Woodburn and Gervais high schools held their pageants to raise funds for Doernbecher Children's Hospital last week, raking in more than $20,000 combined.
Woodburn's event has exceeded $8,000, while Gervais, which was the first school in northern Marion County to start the fundraiser in 2000, raised $12,800.
While the pageants are fundraisers, they also provide an entertaining program, in which competing students, chosen by teachers and administrators, dance, display their talents, model formal and athletic clothing donated by local businesses and answer thought-provoking questions.
At the end of the night, each school crowns winners.
At Woodburn, the Bulldog crown was awarded to the team from Woodburn Arts and Communications Academy, Pedro Coronado and Bianca Gudino (above).
Gervais crowned Gabriel Lucas and America Betancourt as Mr. and Miss Gervais 2018.
