Suspicious package shuts down I-5 near Woodburn
All lanes of I-5 southbound at Woodburn interchange were closed for approximately 45 minutes on Wednesday afternoon due to a "suspicious package," Oregon State Police troopers told KOIN 6 News, a partner of Pamplin Media Group.
The closure happened around 2:45 p.m. near exit 271 after someone reported a suspicoius package under the Woodburn overpass. Lanes on I-5 reopened around 3:30 p.m., but the southbound on ramp remained closed an additional 15 minutes. Traffic in both directions remained slow long after all lanes opened up.
Troopers said bomb technicians headed to the scene and used a robot to inspect the package. The package was mylar and a parachute cord.
