World-traveling Harlem Wizards to compete against St. Paul School District leaders in fundraiser

COURTESY PHOTO: HARLEM WIZARDS - The Harlem Wizards Swoop Unit will visit St. Paul High School next month for a fundraising basketball game against school district leaders.Get ready: A high-flying, slam-dunking, rim-rattling basketball show is coming to St. Paul.

The world-famous Harlem Wizards will visit the St. Paul High School gymnasium at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 12 for an evening of fun and fundraising. The Wizards will play a game against a team of St. Paul School District administrators, teachers, community leaders and community members. Proceeds will benefit the St. Paul School District programs.

The event, which is hosted by the St. Paul Elementary Parent Teacher Committee, will feature a variety of interactive extras to complement the Wizards' dazzling demonstration of hoops artistry: Pregame "Wiz Kids" warm-up, contests, comedy, slam dunks, audience participation, merchandise giveaways and more. The game will conclude with the Wizards' signature dance extravaganza.

"We are delighted to host the Wizards," Tricia Chastain, St. Paul Elementary PTC co-chair, said in a press release. "They are superb showmen who deliver fantastic all-ages entertainment for a great cause."

The Harlem Wizards SWOOP Unit, including Team Manager Dwayne "Swoop" Simpson, James "Road Runner" Tyndall III, Roscoe "Sarge" Johnson, Gerald "Sky Walker" Warrick III, Justin "High Rise" Mitchell, and Antoine "Miles High" Millien Jr., will take on the Buckaroo Ballers, which includes St. Paul Elementary School Principal and district Superintendent Joe Wehrli, school board member Sean Connor and Marion Ag CEO John Hockett.

The Harlem Wizards create awe-inspiring events throughout the country. At a Wizards game, fans witness amazing basketball talent combined with hilarious comedy. It's two hours of family time where spectators become part of the show, experiencing a display of tricks, coordinated ball handling, fancy passing and aerodynamic athleticism combined with high-energy comedy and audience interaction.

Tickets purchased before the event are $15 for general admission (ages 13+), $10 for students (ages 3-12), and children 2 and under are free with paid general admission (must sit on parents lap). Tickets can be purchased at the following locations from now until the day of the game, May 12th: St Paul Elementary School office or HYPERLINK "http://www.harlemwizards.com" www.harlemwizards.com.

Tickets are first come, first served and will also be available on the day of the game at St. Paul High School for $20 for general admission and $15 for students. Doors open at 5 p.m. Also available for purchase are Harlem Wizards souvenirs. Purchase a Wizards replica jersey to become a "Wiz Kid" and warm up with the team before the game.

Founded in 1962, the Wizards have played thousands of games throughout the United States and abroad, having raised over $25 million for schools and charitable causes.
