North Marion School District superintendent lays out the next steps in bond process

FILE PHOTO - Ginger RedlingerI would like to thank the North Marion community for supporting the bond this fall. As community members you played an important role in developing the proposal that you voted for this year.

The North Marion School District will protect the investment you are making in your schools. We are beginning the early planning phase and want to keep you informed of our progress.

We are establishing several committees to make sure we maximize the impact of every bond dollar. We are implementing a communication plan and reporting process to be transparent about how each dollar is spent and the progress we are making.

Our first step is to hire a project manager, who will represent our district and manage the project from start to finish. This step will be completed in January.

Also in January we will start the work of the classroom design committee. This committee will study newly renovated high schools like our proposed project that contain modernized teaching and learning spaces and envision how it might look here in North Marion High School.

Advisory committees will begin to share information and get feedback from staff in the areas that will be impacted by bond projects, like CTE (vocational education), subject areas (math, English, science, etc.), athletics, library/media and office staff.

Another committee that will form in January is the Community Bond Oversight Committee. Community members and representatives from North Marion School Board will review financial information about the bond project and give feedback.

Information gathered from all committees will be given to the last committee, the Bond Executive Committee, which includes the district's business manager, the project manager, architectural firm representative and the superintendent. This committee will weigh all input and make final decisions throughout the project.

We plan to provide project information to our families and community members as we progress and we will hold regular bond-update information meetings so everyone can stay up to date on the project and timeline.

Please continue to stay involved in the process that started almost three years ago. Your feedback and support brought us to this point in time and the next three years will be very exciting.
