by: LINDSAY KEEFER - Lukia Melkomukov, a fourth-grader at Heritage Elementary School in Woodburn, is the only student in Oregon to receive an iPod Shuffle in a contest from Achieve3000, an online-based instructional program.Woodburn fourth-grader Lukia Melkomukov has won Achieve3000’s Winter Holiday Contest for the whole state of Oregon.

Lukia, who is in Mrs. Huelsman’s two-way Russian dual classroom at Heritage Elementary School, won the award for using the online nonfiction-based instructional program during the holiday break.

Only one student was chosen in each state.

For winning first place, Lukia wins an iPod Shuffle.

“We are very proud that one of our students was recognized for the work they completed over the winter holiday,” said Lisa Wolf, teacher on special assignment at Heritage. “It’s very heartening to know that our students don’t let the learning stop at the school door. With Achieve 3000 and other online programs, students are able to extend their learning opportunity to home.”
