North Marion Huskies land three on 2017 4A All-State Team

PHIL HAWKINS - North Marion junior Andy Schmitz was named to the 4A First Team, marking the second straight year the Huskies' utility player has garnered All-State recognition. While the North Marion baseball team was eliminated from the playoffs more than a week ago, the Huskies continue to pull down awards from their successful 2017 campaign.

Three members of the North Marion baseball team — senior Dylan Doubrava, junior Andy Schmitz and sophomore Grant Henry — were each named to the 2017 4A All-State baseball team this year.

Schmitz was one of the most consistently reliable bats in the state at the 4A level, which led him to being the runner up in the Player of the Year voting in the Oregon West Conference.

Schmitz led the Huskies in many major batting categories, including batting average (0.538), runs scored (40), hits (43), total bases (53) and on base percentage (0.622) while driving in 13 runs and stealing 18 bases.

One of two seniors on the team, Doubrava was a solid two-way player for the Huskies at short stop and in the middle of the batting lineup. Doubrava had a fielding percentage of 0.890 in 23 games for the Huskies on defense and was one of the team's top run producer, driving in 24 RBIs for North Marion this season. He also batted 0.366 with seven doubles, 26 runs scored and 21 stolen bases.

Henry, one of the team's primary weapons on the pitching mound, earned his addition to the all-state team for his play behind the plate as catcher. Henry had a fielding percentage of 0.955 for the season on defense and batted 0.370 from the plate with 30 hits, six doubles, a team-leading 28 RBIs and stole 17 bases without being thrown out once.

On the pitcher's mound, Henry led the team with a 7-1 record and a 1.69 ERA, to go with 53 strikeouts while holding batters to just a 0.164 average.
