The expansion of the incubator into Innovation Labs will allow the company more flexibility in the companies they choose to support.

PORTLAND TRIBUNE: JEFF ZURSCHMEIDE - The Jaguar Land Rover "incubator" space for startup technology companies when it first opened in 2016.Jaguar Land Rover came to Portland with a new idea in 2016: an "incubator" for startup technology companies that would allow the British automaker to give a hand-up to entrepreneurs with good ideas. The program brought in groups of three startups at a time for 6-month residencies in JLR's Pearl District offices. Startups accepted into the program received investment, coaching, and functional office space during their tenure at the incubator. Since the founding of the tech incubator, more than 20 startup companies received support from Jaguar Land Rover.

Now Jaguar Land Rover has announced changes to the program, including a new name. Effective immediately, the center will be known as the Jaguar Land Rover Innovation Labs. They've also expanded the charter to include anything from a pre-seed startup to a growth stage company.

"This shift will allow us to innovate faster and be more agile in our research and exploration of products and technologies," the company stated in a press release.

The expansion of the incubator into Innovation Labs will allow the company more flexibility in the companies they choose to support, which Jaguar Land Rover staff believe will enable them to bring products to market more effectively.

"We came to fully understand that focusing on our unique selling point — vehicle integrations — gave us the ability to deliver the greatest returns to our startups and internal stakeholders. With hundreds of accelerators and incubators around the world excelling at what they do, we weren't going to let anyone down by making a shift in our program," states the press release.
