Do you know about the West Linn Trails Master Plan? If not, please allow me to tell you about the exciting work currently underway. TAN

West Linn has long envisioned a system of trails allowing not only local hikes and walks, but also connectivity between sometimes-disconnected neighborhoods and community destinations. Although there are currently 25.6 miles of trails in West Linn, community leaders and community members participating in the plan development process believe adding miles will significantly increase our city’s livability.

The 2013 West Linn Master Trails Plan, a vision for the next 50 years of development, proposes nearly 62 miles of new trail routes. Some of the proposed trails use existing infrastructure and some are brand new. All are designed to allow citizens easier access to all corners of our community. The master trails plan doesn’t just include paths in parks — it includes sidewalks too!

The West Linn City Council adopted the plan in December. Now, it is time to move from planning to implementation — an exciting development. The next step in the process is for the West Linn Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to determine the criteria for trail development. The criteria will be used to help decide what trails will be developed first. The advisory board has shared a draft list of criteria, including connectivity, community support, opportunity feasibility and bang for the buck.

We value community input and we want to hear from you. Visit to take a quick and easy survey and share your feedback about the draft criteria. The deadline to participate in the survey is April 1, so please act now. Thank you.
