Regular oil changes maintain your vehicle and save you money!
Many of us have the same reaction when we see that it's time to get the oil changed in our car: Again? I just had it changed! Preventative maintenance like oil changes can seem tedious and expensive. But engine oil is like the lifeblood of your car. Like clogged arteries, letting your oil go unchanged can decrease the lifespan of your vehicle.
You may have heard that with newer cars and oils, frequent oil changes are no longer as necessary. But you may also be surprised at what auto mechanics consider "extreme operating conditions". If you do a lot of stop-and-go driving in a city or make lots of short trips and don't often get up to high speeds, your engine might not get hot enough to evaporate the water that will form sludge in the engine. Carbon deposits will also build up and slow oil flow in the valves and combustion chamber, and collected particles from dirty oil can degrade engine parts.
Manufacturers may tell you that newer cars can go for longer without oil changes, but who will sell you your next car once the engine fails? The truth is that oil changes are relatively cheap in comparison to the repairs that you'll need once carbon and sludge build-up accumulate in your engine. Change your oil with the recommended type (synthetic, synthetic blend or standard) and early, rather than late, and both you and your car will be happy for the next 100,000 miles.
