How to find a great auto repair shop that you trust.
Your car is a major investment and a long-term part of your life. Like finding a new doctor or dentist, finding a new auto repair shop when you move is a hassle. Luckily, we have many ways to verify an auto repair shop's bona fides. After all, you wouldn't take your kids to a pediatrician that you didn't know anything about, so why would you drop your car off at a shop without Googling it?
The first step is to get referrals from friends and family, or search for shops with good reviews from online services such as Yelp. You may also want to consider the shop's affiliations with independent organizations. For example, a reliable shop will be AAA-approved; have Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certified technicians and the ASE Blue Seal of Service Excellence; have a high rating from the Better Business Bureau; be a member of the Automobile Service Association (ASA); and have an affiliation with a major automotive parts such as NAPA. To be a NAPA-certified automotive center, a shop must have ASE-certified technicians and offer a 24-month, 24,000-mile warranty.
In addition to the above—all of which Lance has—longevity is another factor to consider. Lance has been repairing cars in Wilsonville since 1984 and owned his own business since 1996. You don't stay that long in this industry unless you're doing something right. The search may be intimidating, but it will be worth your time to find a shop, like Lance's, that you can trust.
