Kiwanis Kids Fun Run celebrates 10th year

Early pickup T-shirts and runner numbers are offered

by: SUBMITTED - Sign up for the 10th annual Kiwanis Kids Fun Run, which will take place July 27.July 27 is the big day for the 10th annual Wilsonville Kiwanis Club’s Kids Fun Run. The fun run is a noncompetitive community event that promotes a healthy lifestyle and brings the community together in support of children.

For the second year in a row, it will be held at the Wilsonville High School track, running from 8:45 a.m. until 1 p.m. The theme for this year’s event is, “Let your imagination run,” as a tribute to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which the Kiwanis Club champions in Wilsonville.

Families are encouraged to register their children online at kidsfunrun.org by July 18 so children may receive a free T-shirt. After July 18, the Kiwanis Club will have extra T-shirts available, but supplies cannot be guaranteed.

In-person registration will be open at the Wilsonville High School track on July 26 from 3 to 6 p.m. and starting at 8 a.m. July 27.

Registration is free, but donations are appreciated. All donations go directly toward providing books for children in Wilsonville through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Participants may pick up their T-shirts and runner numbers July 26 at the high school track from 3 to 6 p.m. or July 27 beginning at 8 a.m. To avoid lines, families are encouraged to pick up items on Friday afternoon.

To kick off the day, all kids are welcome to join in a parade. It will stage at the high school tennis court area at 8:45 a.m. and will begin winding its way onto the track at 9. The first running heat of the day will be the silly and entertaining mascot run. Choose your favorite mascot and cheer for it as the mascots skip, hop, tumble and crawl to the finish line.

Runs for the oldest kids are the longest of the day and provide excitement for participating middle school runners.

Runs for the youngest children are the shortest, and parents are invited to run alongside those children who need accompaniment. Children with special needs are welcomed, with a separate heat designated specifically for those who cannot run with their age group because of mobility issues or other special needs.

Running heat schedules will be available on the website after July 18 and upon check-in on the day of the event.

Thanks to event sponsors, many activities in addition to running will be available at the fun run. May Trucking Company will have a big truck at the venue for kids to explore up close. Legacy Health System will sponsor a wellness pavilion, Jay Puppo State Farm Insurance will sponsor a dunk tank and Guild Mortgage will sponsor a rock climbing wall.

May Trucking and Wilsonville Orthodontics will sponsor face-painting booths. The Wilsonville High School Key Club will oversee an obstacle course on the football field, and a free light healthy lunch will be provided by Albertsons.

Volunteers are welcome and needed at the Kiwanis Kids Fun Run. Possible volunteer duties include helping with registration, corralling children into age groups for their running heats, helping to serve lunches, setup, tear-down and many other tasks. Shifts run from two- to four-hour increments on both days.
