Its zombies against survivors in unique 5K

Zombie Apocalypse Run was created by a pair of West Linn women

by: SUBMITTED - Decide whether you are a zombie or a survivor and run for your life at the Zombie Apocalypse Run.The third annual Zombie Apocalypse Trail Run will be held Oct. 12 at Heiser Farms in Dayton. This race is unlike any race in the nation. Participants chase after each other in an apocalyptic setting, with theatrics along the race course to thrill and scare.

Participants register as either a zombie or a survivor. Survivors will receive a belt with two flags on it and a two-minute head start. After the two minutes are up, the hoard of zombies are unleashed and chase after survivors to “infect” them by grabbing their flags.

The course wanders through a corn maze, woods, along pumpkin patches and trails. The theatrics from last year included a tank as the starting gun, a helicopter hovering over runners ushering them to the quarantine area, fog and surprise zombies at every turn. This year promises to be even better.

You also can view the powerful pumpkin cannons, tour and enjoy the corn maze, petting zoo, barn theater, train and hay rides, as well as a pumpkin patch.

The event was created in 2011 by two West Linn women, Debbie Parsons and Heather Robbins, both mothers and athletic enthusiasts. The first race sold out and last year’s attracted more than 3,000 participants.
