The best of 2013 in photos

These are my favorite news photos of 2013. Some are newsworthy while others belong to the travel brochure category. At any rate, we here at the Spokesman encourage you to submit photos to us of activities or events in the community that you feel are newsworthy or at least worthy of praise.

8. Everybody loves goats!

by: SPOKESMAN PHOTO: JOSH KULLA - Goats were brought in to Wilsonville's Tranquil Park last fall to cut down on the weeds and invasive vegetation. They proved to be a popular draw with locals and visitors alike.

9. Returning to the skies

by: SPOKESMAN PHOTO: JOSH KULLA - Wilsonville resident Duane 'Buck' Buckmaster took a flight in a Stearman Kaydet last fall out of Aurora Airport. The World War II veteran flew the venerable Kaydet during basic flight training during the war. He went on to copilot B-24 bombers over Europe and was eventually shot down over Romania.

10. Working for conservation

by: SPOKESMAN PHOTO: JOSH KULLA - Coffee Creek Correctional Facility inmates are taking part in an expansive project to help restore the Oregon silverspot butterfly. In November inmates planted more than 50,000 violet plants as part of their work.

11. Community service at its finest

by: SPOKESMAN PHOTO: JOSH KULLA - Wilsonville High School Class of 2013 graduate Reed Burris completed an impressive Eagle Scout project at the Pleasant View Cemetery in April that involved restoring U.S. military veterans' gravesites.
