Robinson said he decided to run for county elections official after controversy stirred up over ballot tampering in 2012 at the county clerk’s office.

“That particular section of (county) government needs some new blood,” he said.

Back in the May 2010 primary election, Hall’s office also misprinted ballots to include a race that was supposed to be on the ballot for the November general election. That incident cost taxpayers $120,000 to correct. Then ballot tampering was discovered Oct. 31, 2012, in which a temporary worker admitted to altering ballots.

Robinson currently is consulting as an engineer and is an entrepreneur with a background as a Navy officer, an engineering instructor at the Naval Academy, a program and project manager for the Navy and as a department director for the city of Hillsboro. He is also a commander in the Navy Reserve.

He has a Bachelor of Science in engineering from United States Naval Academy, a Master of Science in civil engineering from Oregon State University and an MBA in business from Willamette University.

In 2010, Robinson ran against former U.S. Rep. David Wu and lost. Though a Democrat, Robinson said party affiliation should have no basis for the county clerk position.

He said the clerk position is “something I’m very experienced doing. This is an area that I can affect the way we live in a positive way.”

Robinson said he wishes to bring “integrity and competency” back to the county clerk position.
