A Clackamas County Jail inmate committed suicide in his cell on Friday, July 4.

According to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, the dead man is Brandon Anthony Barker, 28. He was in the jail on charges of fourth-degree assault, strangulation, interference with a police report, and menacing.

Corrections deputies reportedly found Barker in his cell hanging with a noose made of a bed sheet around his neck. Jail personnel attempted to revive him but were not successful.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office detectives and the state medical examiner's office responded to the scene and investigated the incident, which has been ruled a suicide.

Barker has been a Clackamas County Jail inmate 16 times, including his latest and final incarceration. He was first lodged in custody in 2007 and police said his charge history has included thefts, criminal mischief, parole violations, assaults, and domestic violence-related charges, including second-degree kidnapping, for which he received a 40-month sentence, as well as violation of restraining orders.
