The city of Wilsonville is encouraging residents to consider hosting a neighborhood National Night Out party on Aug. 5.

It’s not a city-sponsored program, but the city can assist neighborhoods in requesting visits from the Wilsonville Police Department and Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue if they are available.

No city permit is needed if events are held on private property and do not block street traffic.

“National Night Out provides an opportunity for neighbors to get to know one another, heighten crime-prevention awareness and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships,” said Wilsonville Police Chief Jeff Smith.

National Night Out organizers may also obtain a “Coordinator Tool Kit” and register with the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) at National Night Out is a nationwide program started in 1984 that is sponsored by National Association of Town Watch (NATW), a non-profit organization dedicated to the development and promotion of various crime prevention programs.
