Wilsonville Kiwanis Club continues annual tradition, this year at Wood Middle School

Set for 8 a.m. July 26, at Inza R. Wood Middle School, the 11th annual Kids Fun Run will have a special raffle for a pair of basketball shoes worn in games and signed by Blazers forward Dorrell Wright. That’s on top of all the usual festivities offered at the Fun Run, the top fundraising event of the year for Wilsonville Kiwanians. Registration is free and open to children aged 3-14. Online registration is now closed, but runners can sign up in person at Wood Middle School on July 25 from 3-6 p.m. or July 26 from 7-9 a.m. before the heats actually start. Families are, of course, encouraged to register on Friday to avoid lines and the last minute rush.

All proceeds will go directly to the Wilsonville Kiwanis Outreach Program, which supports programs for children including literacy programs, youth athletics, academic scholarships, leadership opportunities for youth and scouting groups.

The Kids Fun Run brings together an estimated 1,500 kids and parents to have fun, promote physical fitness, and to raise money to improve the lives of local children by promoting healthy habits and fun competition.

Each child or teen that participates gets a free t-shirt and medal, as well as free healthy lunch provided by the Wilsonville Albertson’s supermarket, a long-time sponsor. There are also booths with fun activities and health screenings.

All net proceeds from the Kiwanis Kid’s Fun Run are used by the Wilsonville Kiwanis Club’s Outreach Program to provide grants and financial assistance to benefit children in Wilsonville in some fashion. Over the past seven years, this event has raised more than $50,000 to fund scholarships, youth activities, and programming, including Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Wilsonville

And this year, with the addition of the raffle for Dorrell Wright’s Trailblazers shoes, there’s just one more reason to come on down and join the fun. The drawing for the shoes will be held at 11:45, near the end of festivities.
