The Wilsonville Public Library will host a trio of history presentations starting Friday, Aug. 22, with “Size and Scale of the Universe: Astronomy for Everyone,” by astronomer Kevin Manning. Manning will discuss the unimaginable size and scale of our universe. Weather permitting, students will get a chance to view the heavens through a powerful telescope. Manning has worked with NASA, the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and many more. The presentation runs from 7-9 p.m. in the Oak Room at the library, which is located at 8200 SW Wilsonville Road.

Then, on Sept. 11, Sig Unander Jr. will host a presentation on “Women Airforce Service Pilots in World War II.” Known as WASPS, America’s first female military pilots flew vital missions in World War II on all fronts. From ferrying supplies to training pilots and flying test missions, they helped free male counterparts up for combat operations. Author and speaker Unander tells a fascinating story of a forgotten generation of women.

This presentation runs from 7-8:30 in the Oak Room.

Finally, Chris Brown, retired superintendent of the Oregon State Police, will give a presentation on Thursday, Oct. 9, on the history of American military insignia. “History, Heraldry, and Use” will walk viewers through military history from the Civil War to World War II using the colorful and complicated badges worn by units in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own family medals, badges and awards to the presentation.

All presentations are free to the public. For more information visit http://wilsonvillelibrary.org or call 503-682-2744.
