Don’t pretend to represent Wilsonville when you don’t

In our Spokesman last week, you published a special section entitled, “101 Things to Do.” It was loaded with information and good ideas.

Thanks for producing it.

But it sent out a very negative signal to residents of Charbonneau, a Wilsonville community of about 3,000 souls surrounding our 27-hole public golf course.

You (Pamplin Media Group) purchased our local paper and continue to promote it as having “comprehensive news of YOUR community.” So far, I would be most residents don’t even realize their paper has been taken over by a conglomerate. They still imagine you producing our news right in Wilsonville.

The number one thing to do in your special section was golf. Imagine our surprise to not find Charbonneau Golf Club not listed!

Yesterday, at a meeting of the golf course board, an unhappy resident made the comment, “They didn’t list Charbonneau in our own local paper!”

If you produce sections such as this that go into many different regions of your 24 newspaper group, say so. Don’t pretend to represent Wilsonville when you don’t.
