Wildcats snag key league victories over St. Helens, Sandy
It was an eventful and successful Tuesday evening for members of Wilsonvilles fall sports teams.
The Wilsonville volleyball team rebounded from its recent loss to rival Sherwood with a thrilling 3-2 (25-22, 10-25, 18-25, 25-20, 15-13) victory against league-leading St. Helens.
The fourth-ranked Wildcats (12-3, 9-2 in the Northwest Oregon Conference) gained a game in the race for the league title and handed the third-ranked Lions (15-3, 10-1) their first loss of the regular season.
Wilsonville trailed 2-1 after three games but forced a tiebreaker with a 25-20 win in the fourth frame and eked out a 15-13 triumph in the final set.
The Wilsonville girls soccer team, meanwhile, notched its sixth-straight victory with a 4-0 shutout of Sandy on the road.
The second-ranked Wildcats (7-2-1, 3-0 in the NWOC), who have outscored their last six opponents 24-4, will host top-ranked Sherwood on Thursday night. They snapped a nine-game series losing streak with a 4-2 win over the Bowmen last year.
The Wilsonville boys soccer team scored a goal in the first half and held on for a 1-0 victory over Sandy at home.
It was the fourth-consecutive win for the third-ranked Wildcats (7-3, 3-0 in the NWOC), who have outscored opponents 13-4 during the streak. They will face Sherwood on the road Thursday.
