College basketball: Wilsonville grad Seth Gearhart shines for Rice
Forward earns all-tournament honors at Cable Car Classic
Seth Gearhart is playing like hes making up for lost time. Which he is.
After having his previous season derailed by a foot injury, the Wilsonville alumnus returned to fine form for the Rice mens basketball team Nov. 29-30 at the Cable Car Classic in Santa Clara, Calif.
Gearhart averaged 17.5 points per game and drained a total of eight three-pointers in the Owls two games, earning all-tournament honors.
He went 6-for-10 from beyond the arc en route to 20 points in Rices 97-93 loss to Rider, adding four rebounds, two blocks, an assist and a steal in 33 minutes.
The following day against host Santa Clara, the 6-foot-7 junior forward made nine of his 10 shots from the foul line and finished with 15 points and six rebounds in the Owls 67-66 victory.
Through eight games this season, Gearhart was averaging 8.3 points and 4.1 minutes in 28.8 minutes per game. He also had a team-high 10 blocks during that span.
Gearhart and Rice (4-5) will continue their season Dec. 19 at home in Houston against Northwood.
