Girls basketball: Wilsonville falls short of 5A state playoffs
Wildcats close season with losses to Sherwood, Putnam
The Wilsonville girls basketball team missed out on the Class 5A postseason for the second year in a row after finishing at No. 25 in the state rankings. The top 24 teams earned playoff or play-in games.
The Wildcats finished their season with a 9-14 overall record, including a 6-8 tally in the Northwest Oregon Conference.
They tied Liberty for fifth place in the league standings behind NWOC champion Putnam, runner-up Sherwood, third-place Milwaukie and fourth-place Sandy.
Wilsonville had chances to climb in the 5A rankings in the last week of the regular season, but it was unable to pick up a victory.
It lost 38-29 to No. 12 Sherwood at home Feb. 25 in the teams last meeting before the Bowmen jump to Class 6A next year.
It then fell 64-37 on the road Feb. 28 in its conference finale against No. 13 Putnam, which wrapped up NWOC play with an undefeated 14-0 record.
Willamette (22-1) owns the top ranking in 5A. The eventual eight-team tournament will be held March 12-15 at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene.
