Gahan places third in slalom, Knutson takes third in giant slalom
Two members of the Wilsonville skiing team placed at the Oregon Interscholastic Ski Racing Association state championships March 6-7 at Mt. Hood Meadows.
Kevan Gahan had the third-best performance in a field of more than 100 competitors in the boys individual slalom with a time of 1 minute 31.13 seconds over two runs. The only faster skiers were Lakeridges Ashlay Ruddick (1:24.14) and Sunsets Jack Botti (1:31.13).
Jack Knutson took third out of more than 100 entrants in the boys individual giant slalom, clocking a combined time of 1:21.05 in two runs. He finished behind West Linns Trevor Maxwell (1:19.28) and Botti (1:21.00).
Gahan and Knutson led Wilsonville to seventh place out of 17 schools in the boys competition with a total time of 9:37.72. West Linn (8:43.03) won the team title, and Botti captured the individual championship.
Knutson finished in 20th in the combined event standings after taking 26th in the slalom event with a 1:47.61.
Gahan did not place on the combined leaderboard after being disqualified on his first giant slalom run. He had one of the best times in the second giant slalom run.
Three other skiers represented Wilsonville at the state competition.
Jarod Esnoz finished at No. 30 overall. He was 34th in the boys slalom with a time of 1:50.54 and clocked a 1:34.67 in the giant slalom to take 49th.
Conor Hult came in at No. 50. He finished two slalom runs in 2:12.73 to take 65th and was 73rd with a 1:42.97 in the boys giant slalom.
Jordan Jaffe ended up in 40th in the girls giant slalom competition with a total time of 1:51.25. Jesuits Jenna Jansky (1:24.73) captured top honors.
South Eugenes Phoebe Rogers won the girls slalom with a combined time of 1:28.82.
