The former Wilsonville High School star shot a 73-73 (146) on the 6,501-yard course, climbing to the top spot on the individual leaderboard despite entering his second round in a tie for third place.

Salzwedel, who defeated Pacific Lutheran runner-up Seth Nickerson by one stroke, was named the league player of the year and garnered first-team all-conference honors for the fourth time in his stellar career with the Pirates.

The first-place performance came about four years after he won the Class 5A individual state title as a senior at Wilsonville in 2010.

It was the second victory of the season for Salzwedel, who averaged 76.3 strokes per round in 15 rounds this school year. He shot a 77-69 (146) to win the UPS Invitational in March in Fircrest, Wash.

Thanks in part to Salzwedel, Whitworth tallied 612 strokes over two days to finish in a tie with Puget Sound. Pacific Lutheran (602) won the NWC tournament title.

Wilsonville alumnus Logan Munson, representing Linfield College, carded a team-best 74-79 (153) to tie for eighth place.
