Equestrian: Wilsonville to send three riders to OHSET state meet
Caitlin Kauer advances with district title in steer daubing
Three members of Wilsonville High Schools equestrian team have qualified for the OHSET state championships, which will be held May 15-18 in Redmond.
Junior co-captain Caitlin Kauer won the Tri-River Valley District gold medal in steer daubing and added a silver-medal finish in breakaway roping, nabbing state bids in both events. She also earned the districts first alternate spot in barrels after winning the event at the last regular-season meet in McMinnville with a time of 15.09 seconds.
Wildcats teammate Emily McCarthy advanced to the state meet in hunt seat over fences after finishing in a three-way tie for fourth place in the district standings. Fellow freshman Emmerson Smith qualified in showmanship after taking fourth place in the district.
Wilsonville tallied 489 points to take second place in the small division of the district behind Colton (1,142). Its roster features Kauer, McCarthy and Smith as well as co-captain Savannah Jersey, Jodie Lulay and Kira Petrunin.
