Girls lacrosse: Wilsonville wins second-straight league title in dominant fashion
The Wilsonville girls lacrosse team returns to the playoffs after winning its second-straight conference championship in dominant fashion.
The fifth-ranked Wildcats (13-1) went undefeated in the Northwest League, combining to outscore their opponents 219-23 in 12 games.
They are scheduled to host Beaverton (6-8), which tied for third place in the Metro League, in a playoff game May 14 at Randall Stadium.
After falling to top-ranked West Linn in a nonconference clash at home April 22, Wilsonville got back to its winning ways.
It cruised past Newberg, Glencoe and Liberty in a span of four nights, outscoring the three conference opponents by a whopping 54-3 margin.
Abby Chase, Jocelyn Welberg, Emma Jeffries and Sarah Johnson each scored three goals to lead the team past Newberg on the road April 29. Senior goalkeeper Olivia Chase made nine saves.
The Wildcats then shut out Glencoe for the second time this season at home May 1, outshooting the Hillsboro school 26-4. Abby Chase and Alex Monello led with three goals apiece.
Abby Chase, Monello and Welberg each put away four goals to lead Wilsonville in a rout of Liberty on the road May 2. Abby Chase also tallied five assists.
The Wildcats finished their regular season with wins over Sherwood and Century.
Abby Chase scored six goals and Welberg added three in Wilsonvilles 13-2 victory over the Bowmen at home May 6.
Monello (five goals) was one of nine scorers for the Wildcats in a 17-2 rout of the Jaguars on the road May 8.
