Track and field: Rebecca Wenz, Taryn Rawlings lead Wilsonville at BorderDuel
Taryn Rawlings and Rebecca Wenz posted third-place finishes to lead the Wilsonville track and field teams contingent June 7-8 in the seventh-annual BorderDuel Track Classic at Lewis & Clark College and Wilsonville High School.
Rawlings took third in the girls 1,500-meter run with a time of 4 minutes 50.34 seconds, finishing behind Portland-St. Marys Academy senior Paige Rice (4:39.24) and West Salem sophomore Brooke Chuhlantseff (4:43.99).
Wenz placed third in the girls javelin competition with a mark of 131 feet 8 inches, finishing behind Elmira senior Kelsey Shaw (141-1) and Turlock-Pitman (Calif.) freshman Cerah Moren (133-2). She was also eighth in the girls discus throw.
Alex Roberts and Josh Meyer represented the Wildcats on the boys side.
Roberts placed fifth in the boys long jump with a mark of 20-10.25. Wapato (Wash.) senior Alfredo Hernandez (21-7.75) edged Eugene-Churchill senior Spenser Schmidt (21.7.50) for the title.
Meyer took ninth place in the boys 5,000 with a time of 16:54.55. Seattle-Garfield senior Dylan Hayes (15:41.04) earned top honors.
