Wilsonville baseball

The No. 5 ranked Wilsonville baseball team won games over Sandy and Milwaukie last week.

Through five innings, the Wildcats were engaged in an airtight contest against Sandy Tuesday, May 9.

But Wilsonville exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning en route to an 8-0 victory.

Drake Carter finished with three hits while Trevor Antonson, Dominic Enbody, Halden Bjornson and Adam Stevens each contributed two hits and Andrew Gay added a triple. Wilsonville pitcher Gage Gloster threw 13 strikeouts in six shutout innings.

Wilsonville then came back from a two-run deficit to defeat Milwaukie 4-3 Wednesday, May 10 in extra innings.

The Mustangs took a 3-1 lead at the end of the first inning but Wilsonville scattered three unanswered runs throughout the rest of the game including one run in the seventh inning and one run in the eighth inning.

Enbody drove in a game-tying single in the seventh inning while Carter's sacrifice fly to left field drove in Gay and produced the game-winning run. Carter also contributed a double and a triple in the game. Pitcher Ben VavRosky struck out nine batters and gave up two earned runs in seven innings.

Wilsonville softball

After notching a convincing victory over St. Helens, the Wilsonville softball team suffered a couple crushing losses that put its playoff hopes in jeopardy. To start the week, Wilsonville defeated St. Helens 6-0 Tuesday, May 9.

The Wildcats scored two runs in the first inning, three runs in the third inning and one run in the sixth inning.

Carly Atwood, Emily Harms, Isabelle Plymale and Maryssa Miller all finished with two hits in the game while Kailey Krueger finished with nine strikeouts and no runs in seven innings pitched.

Wilsonville nearly pulled off a spirited comeback but lost to Parkrose 9-7 Wednesday, May 10. The Broncos took a 5-0 lead through two innings and a 9-1 lead through four innings before Wilsonville scored four runs in the sixth inning and two runs in the seventh inning.

Lauren Isaak accumulated three hits and three runs batted in while Krueger, Harms and Plymale added two hits apiece.

Wilsonville then lost to Hillsboro 2-1 in extra innings Friday, May 12. Miller's double in the fifth inning gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead but the Spartans scored one run in the sixth inning and another run in the eighth inning to pull off the win.

As of Monday, May 15, Wilsonville was tied with Parkrose for the sixth spot in the Northwest Oregon Conference standings and the final league playoff play-in game spot with no games left on its schedule.

Wilsonville boys lacrosse

The Wilsonville boys lacrosse team lost a league playoff game to Liberty 14-6 Friday, May 12 and finished the season in third place in the four-team Northwest Oregon Conference.
