Boones Ferry library needs volunteers

The library staff at Boones Ferry Primary School is in need of volunteers to help with library projects such as shelving books and processing new books.

Training for new volunteers is scheduled for Oct. 17 from 9 to 11 a.m. Attendees will learn the library layout, how to shelve books and cover new books. Treats will be provided. Robotics team info meeting set

The West Linn-Wilsonville FIRST robotics team, Error Code Xero, will hold an informational meeting Sept. 25 at 6:30 p.m. in the Wilsonville High School cafeteria. The program offers students opportunities to receive one-on-one, hands-on training in mechanical, electrical and software engineering from knowledgeable professional engineers and software designers.

The team is seeking students interested in learning about the technical areas of the robot as well as students interested in business management, marketing, video production and Web design. Sign up for ISEF

Students who like to use science to answer a question or design a solution to a problem are encouraged to register for the West Linn-Wilsonville School District’s International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) program. 

Preregistration for ISEF is going on now at tinyurl.com/isef2014. Preregistered students will receive mentoring as they explore the program and create a research plan before committing to participate in the fair, the CREST-Jane Goodall Science Symposium, Feb. 26 to 28.

Open house slated at CREST farm

The CREST Center will hold an open house and fall festival at its farm Oct. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The free event is open to the community. Activities will include making fresh apple cider, touring the farm, meeting the farmer, saving seeds and tasting fruits and vegetables. Each family will be able to take home free gourds and fresh flowers and vegetables from the farm will be available for purchase. Live bluegrass music and a petting zoo with baby goats will round out the event.

The CREST farm is located at 7151 SW Boeckman Road in Wilsonville. Volunteers are needed for the event. Contact Becky at 503-673-7350 to volunteer.

Exchange program seeks representatives

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs is looking for volunteers to serve as local area representatives. ASSE provides academic year and semester exchange programs in the United States for high school students age 15 to 18 from around the world.

Area representatives are needed to recruit and screen prospective host families, to interview students interested in studying abroad and to supervise exchange students in the community.
